Ayurvedic Foot Soak for Headaches and Stress

Ayurvedic Foot Soak for Headaches, Stress, and to aid in Detoxification

I came by this foot soak innocently enough, with a friend telling me I could soak my feet in ginger powder and water to help a headache that had been trailing on for three days. With my own training in Ayurveda and Herbal Medicine in general, I decided to add a few grounding and detoxifying componenets to my foot soak. The result was an immediate cessation of my headache. I slept deeply that night, and I just felt more calm and balanced. So, give it a try if you'd like.

Mix together:

1/4 - 1/2 cup ground dried ginger
1/4 cup Ashwagandha (even if you do not have Ashwagandha, try the recipe without it)
1/4 cup Triphala (again, even if you do not have Triphala, try the recipe without it)
A few shakes of black pepper (omit if you're allergic to pepper)
1 cup of sea salt or celtic sea salt

Note: This isn't a great foot bath for those with open sores on their feet as it is very warming and will cause irritation to eczema, scabs, or athletes foot.

Run a very hot bath. Drop your foot bath mix in and swirl it around with your hands. Let the water get to about 4 inches in the tub then turn it off, slip your feet in and soak for 5-20 minutes. You can choose to scrub them gently with a skin brush or washcloth. When you remove your feet from the bath, dry them and rub organic sesame oil all over them. Put on socks. Enjoy the bliss! (and don't forget to rinse the tub out when you're done)
